MSP 101: SEOJan 18, 2022
Today, we’re talking about SEO and the challenge that surrounds doing SEO properly and correctly so that your website and blog ranks above all others. If you aren't already subscribed to my YouTube channel, make sure you do that now so you can see all the videos on my MSP: 101 Marketing Pillar series.
STEP 1 - GET YOUR TECHNICAL BASIS RIGHT
You can upload a full sitemap to the likes of Google so it can index your website properly, and also helps you make sure that there are no broken links across your website either.
STEP 2 - WRITE YOUR CONTENT WITH PHYSICAL PEOPLE IN MIND
The days of stuffing keywords into your website spaces to try to cover SEO are over. It makes for awful content and what you should be concentrating on is just good content. If you see a well-performing blog post from someone else, try recreating it using your own version. Make it more detailed, longer and keep track of the comments, making sure to answer the questions people are asking.
To win the long game, great content is what's going to nail it.
STEP 3 - CREATE CONTENT BY KEEPING THE SEARCHER IN THE FOREFRONT OF YOUR MIND
Put yourself in the seat of someone who is looking for your blog post, article, or how-to guide, and think about how they would want the information to be presented. What resources might they need, can you provide any downloadable templates for them or links to other relevant third-party tools? Can you provide discounts on products that they might need or links to them?
Perhaps they might just want someone to do it for them - so be sure to include CTA’s throughout your content to direct them to the help when they need it.
STEP 4 - INCLUDE BACK-LINKS
Do a search of your competitor and see where they are showing up and then look at a similar website to see where you could back-link from. Get in touch and ask them if you could write a blog post for them, which would be displayed on their website with a link back to your website. Creating healthy backlinks is all about creating relationships.
STEP 5 - TEST AND MEASURE
Whenever you're working with marketing, you should always be keeping a watchful eye on what you are doing. Check the keywords you’re ranking for, your page’s rank, because what you don’t measure you won’t improve on.
Use an all-in-one SEO tool like SEM Rush. These tools can make your life SO much easier, and it is well worth just signing up for one. Semrush can help with all of the above, and a lot more. It can monitor your site health, do competitor analysis, discover backlink opportunities, it can even be used to schedule social media posts and give you stats to show whether your work is paying off and increasing your overall SEO or social media reach.
There’s a free trial for SEM Rush - so I would at least sign up for the free trial and get through as much as you can before you decide whether you want to continue. It’s also a great thing to give to a marketing team or even marketing apprentice to get their head around and spend a month of their time to learn the tool inside out and fix any issues with your website.
